Currently, on most Gigabyte Z270 boards the latest BIOS that enables 'Intel Optane Memory' is causing issues with XMP profiles. The issue forces the motherboard to power off when restarting and then power back on.
To be clear, when the user prompts Windows to restart the system it will then go through the motions but cut power entirely to your system before powering back on ONLY when XMP is enabled in the latest BIOS. Cutting power abruptly and constantly is ill advised.
This issue can only be remedied in two ways: downgrade your BIOS or disable XMP. Downgrading your BIOS with the integrated Qflash is impossible as the latest BIOS on these boards prohibits going to older BIOS versions. The method for flashing back is very dangerous and ill advised.

Some boards come with the latest BIOS from the manufacturer and others do not, it is a gamble.
EDIT: This issue persists even if you manually dial in the ram speeds advertised on the XMP profile. It will not allow you to run the memory at the advertised speeds even if it is compatible with the board using the latest BIOS.
Gigabyte support says this is a serious issue and has made it a high priority.

Gigabyte is privately giving out fixed BIOS versions for certain boards. Keep in mind, these BIOS updates have not been made available on the support site, they have not been made available for every board, and are being 'selectively handed out' to complaining customers.

ASSUMPTION: Huge issue with Gigabyte BIOS programmers. This was a massive oversight and is taking far too long to rectify.
